Team metrics

Push-cycle metrics per team, inspired by DORA. No third-party integration.

What gittan measures

gittan tracks four metrics per team, automatically, with no setup. Two map directly to DORA metrics. Two measure the push gate instead of production — because gated pushes prevent most production failures from happening in the first place.

gittan metricDORA equivalentWhat it measures
Push frequencyDeployment frequencySuccessful pushes to main per day
Pipeline lead timeLead time for changesPush received → pipeline pass/fail
Rejection rateChange failure rate *Failed pipelines / total pipelines
Recovery timeTime to restore *Failed push → next successful push on same repo

* DORA's change failure rate and time to restore measure production failures — code that reached users and broke. gittan's gated push prevents broken code from landing, so those production signals rarely exist. Rejection rate and recovery time measure the gate instead: how often pushes fail the pipeline, and how quickly the team fixes them.

Why not full DORA

DORA requires knowing when something broke in production and when it was fixed. gittan is a git host with pipelines — it does not monitor your running services. It cannot detect a production incident, so it cannot measure change failure rate or mean time to restore in the way DORA defines them.

What gittan does know is every push attempt and every pipeline result. That is enough to measure the push cycle with high fidelity. For teams using gated push, most failures are caught before they reach production — making the gate metrics a meaningful proxy for delivery health.

Why per team

Org-wide averages are noise. A fast platform team masks a struggling product team. gittan shows metrics per team because that is the unit of ownership — a team can act on its own numbers.

Where to see them

Team metrics are visible on the team dashboard in the web UI. Every team member sees them — they are not gated behind an admin role or a reporting add-on.

What gittan does not measure

Lines of code, commit count, PR turnaround time, code coverage percentage, story points, or any other metric that incentivizes the wrong behavior. The research is clear about which metrics predict performance. gittan measures the ones it can measure honestly and nothing else.
